NYFW - Sierra Brave by Paris Mumpower

Los Angeles based model Sierra Brave had her NYFW runway debut this weekend at Buci NYC, while her friend and MERDE contributor Paris Mumpower captured her essence backstage and behind the scenes.

SENTIMENTS FROM SIERRA ‘SISI’

Buci was the best first show any girl could have walked.

Mishka, designer, founder, creative, has a way with people and women specifically that makes one feel safe, loved, and seen. Not to mention, the designs are absolutely stunning.

Buci uses ethical practices to make their clothing. Dead stock fabrics that would have been otherwise been landfill matter and garments sewn in New York with fair wages.

The first time I walked into the Buci office I was greeted with open arms and a light that isn’t found often in the fashion industry. It was that day that I was confirmed for my first show.

I’ve been modeling since I was 19 professionally. I have always had a desire to do runway but hadn’t gotten the opportunity due to my height of 5’7. Buci didn’t blink twice, inclusive of every person that wants to wear the clothing. Also a very rare trait in this industry.

This show felt like a collaboration of efforts and every single person that took part could feel the magic.

Every facet of what makes this brand so special is why I resonate so deeply. I have always had a passion for the environment and connecting with people. Everything they are is everything I’d like to embody and luckily, from Mishka’s words, I do.

POINTS FROM PARIS:

Back in May, Sierra and I planned a last minute trip to New York for her birthday. She had been telling me how she adored Buci and that they wanted us to swing by while we were in town. What was meant to be a quick stop turned into hours getting to know Mishka and the girls drinking dandelion tea together and playing dress up in her spring summer collection. I can’t explain the absolute magic that the Buci team possesses - they’re so kind, so inclusive, and hard working. Watching their collection come to life in the prospect park Boat House was a dream come true - and getting to shoot the show alongside Yazz Jansen and Ivy Telling made it that much sweeter. Truly, it was an incredible show I’ll never forget!
